If i get a needle nose gar do i need an aerator or one of those things that make current? Could i feed it live goldfish?

Can you explain that better ? You do not need additional powerheads or bubbles from a airstone to keep them but you still need a filter and must have some surface movement on the water to allow oxygen exchange.

Needle fish are piscavors and will eat goldfish and just about any other fish which is small enough to be eaten, however feeder goldfish are not a good source of nutrition and are responsible for the deaths of hundreds of fish every year through the spread of diseases. If you can get your needle fish to eat frozen fish (silversides) it will be much healthier for it but if it refuses the dead food you would be better off feeding it small tetras and guppies (not feeder guppies) that are sold as pets.

i kept a gar for a while, a power head without the air attachment on it is a must. although make sure that he has a place to swim when he wnats to be out of hte current. also, plant the tank with tall plants for him to hide in, as they are very skiddish when they are young. also, nothing under a 40 gallon, even for a baby, you will soon find out that when they are startled or a unknown person to them walks in front of their tank, they will begin to thrash violently in the tank. anyhting smaller than a 40 they will smash into the sides.also keep softer plant lights in your tank, you will find that they are uneasy when bright light is shined on them and they will even back up and try to hide in whatever is available. i hope ive been of some help to you.
