Hi guys,

i am in serious trouble..!!!!

All my bettas are falling sick one by one...!!

They seemed to do good until now but...

one by one they stop eating food....!!!even after regular intervals of changing the water..!!

I used to give the best environment but yet they r falling sick i dont know the reason. they appear to be free from diseases. i dont find any signs of disease on them too...!!!

They stop eating, they start acting as though they cannot see the food, long intervals for taking air to breathe..!!

Im new and may not be able to help but i always find that trying to help, you learn from, so....

Have you taken test results of your water? If so, post your readings first. Also, what temperature is your tank water?

What are the test results for your tank water? We need to know the ammonia concentration, the nitrite(NO2) concentration and possibly some other results as measured by a good liquid-reagent based test kit. If you don't have one of these I recommend you perform an immediate 50% water change (with conditioner to remove chlorine/chloramines and rough temperature matching (your hand is good enough for this)) and see if the fish respond by looking livlier. If so, then its even more likely that water stats are at the bottom of this and you'll need the test kit and probably more water changes.

If there are other disease symptoms we'll need to send you over to the emergencies section.

I use a ocean free anti chlorine remover and "tension gon" named medicines for removing any other effecting chemicals. after a day i use rock salt and daily feed them blood worms and once in a month green peeas. They all does well when i am using these but it started recently that one fish died out of dropsy and the weird death i still dont understand is my 1st betta death.. Can any 1 tell me the cause of such a death.

It used to be a normal happy betta, one of my strongest bettas. He used to be fierce and powerful. I got a new tank with a glass seperator right next to it is a female betta. they used to do good but suddenly his interest for the female has gone down , he stopped chasing aggresively . He used to have a lil bit problem in xactly catching the worms that i used to give. so i shifted him to another tank seperately.

he ate for 2 days after seperation after that he stopped eating. he use to try hard to breathe air from the surface. he used to give jerky moments. he used to be in a "S" shaped position sometimes.Never had a clamped fins. His gills were normal. i dont know the reason. he used to get scared even if i touch the tank. There were no signs of any disease but he became slim lil bit as he stopped eating for a week. His fins everything luked as if he is fresh and happy , no paling out or someting. When he is dead he was pointing to the water surface. his head completely turned black.i think he did not have a problem balancing cause he was never tilted. he used to be either at the surface or at the bottom. even when he is at the surface he used to find it hard to breathe air directly from outside the water. What i wonder is did not see any such cases on the net to identify the disease

he was never been scared or hurt in any way..

can any 1 tell me the cause of death..?

OK Joe, we need to go "back to basics" here. With tropical fish it doesn't do any good to start describing symptoms without first finding out the "invisible" things that may be going on with your water. It would be kind of like you telling me that a person is waving their arms and holding their throat and could I explain why but you not telling me that the person is in a closed garage with the car running and exhause coming out!

At the same shops that sell fish and tanks (and on the internet) there are "kits" with small bottles and test tubes and you need one of these to test your water. Many of us like and use the API Freshwater Master Test Kit. It, like other kits, has tests for Ammonia, Nitrite(NO2), pH and nitrates(NO3.) A lot of the things you are describing are symptoms that come from Ammonia and/or Nitrite(NO2) being elevated.

The only chemical you should need is "conditioner" (probably the ocean chlorine remover you mentioned.) Conditioner is only needed to tread the tap water you use to replace the water you siphon out during your weekly water changes. You shouldn't need salt (its bad for nearly all our tropicals when used on a regular basis) or other chemicals.
