The grassy one is Eleocharis vivipara. I find it a bit high maintenance in so far as it needs careful combing to keep it looking neat (I use an afro comb), and it needs placing so that the filter outlet doesn`t blow it in amongst other plants and cause tangling. Mine seems to be getting caught in my Micranthemum umbrosum, so it may be getting replaced with Vallisneria nana

It looks best when it is planted across the back and fairly well spaced out. You should find it very easy to grow.

Dave.

Small green leaved one - is this not bacopa moniera/baby tears?

It is either Bacopa Monnieri or a sad and weak Bacopa Caroliana.

I would chop off the tall stems of the Tiger Lotus as they will block out the light. Leave the mid to low leaves and it will eventually be trained not to send leaves to the surface.

Also agree with Crypt Willisi and WEndtii, although it looks like they've already started to melt. 2 weeks time they should start to regrow

Cheers Andy. Just chopped off those tops on the Tiger Lotus, i wanted to anyway but didnt think i could.

Probably not looking too good as they have been in a jiffy bag all weekend lol. Lets hope i can revive them

Leilani says that Crypts don't like to be disturbed much and nearly always look like they are dying when first positioned. their leaves will go 'mushy' (melting) and die off but will come back a lot stronger given a week or 2.

Make sure you put them where they are going to stay or they will melt each time you move them.

The Tiger Lotus I don't trim. I yank the stem's base from the bulb. I like the leaves to be mid water and down so they give a 'mushroom' effect.

I do have 3 though and I have purposely positioned them:

1 on the left and sheltered so that it does climb high and give some colour to the rear left of the tank.
2 on the right either side of a Nuphar Lutae (Spatterdock) which is a bright green Lily to give some contrast.which I keep mid to low heights and this shelters the Java Fern from too much light.

When I eventually take some more pics I will add them to my hournal so you can see what I mean. beautiful leaves on Nymphae Rubra (Tiger Lotus) you will really like them when they get their scattered look about them.

Andy

p.s. Sent your plants tofay. Not many I'm afraid as I said before when I did my 'proper pruning this weekend, I found that my recent 'quick' and very slapdash pruning had meant there wern't too many pretty examples so I sent:

2 x Hygrophylia (Unknown Species) This is a great colour under the lights goes from lime green at the bottom to a vibrant purple at the top and is a super stong and fast grower.

2 x Ludwigia Repens. This is a yellowly colour but as it gets towards the light the leaves turn a peachy rose colour. Super fast grower though and you will be pruning each week.

4 x Rotala Rotundifolia. Similar colouring to Repens but a more spindly plant. Very fast grower again and you will have your very own Rotala Forest if you keep cutting and replanting.

Lol i think ill listen to Leilani this once. I think thats the brightest thing shes ever said.
If i totally remove the stem will it grow back?

Thank you for those cuttings, they are more than enough! Think im going to take out the whole back of the tank and re plant as the more i disturb it the messier it looks. Just best to start over and replant them all.

Will post photos when they are in the tank

Just remember that the more you disturb the Tetra Substrate the more likely you may get an algae attack.

Every time you take a plant out it will disturb the substrate and release nutrient into the water column.

With the Tiger Lotus, normally when you buy them the bulb has already had the stems removed and you just get your bulb, half sink it into the sand and let it do it's magic.

I also put my old lif from my DIY in the envelope so instead of the 'hole and pinched hose' version you will have the airline connector with securing bolt and siliconed top version. (Makes it easier to remove the hose for refills and also means you're not 'pinching' the hose.
