Hi all,
I want to get some big fish for my tank and am a bit stuck on what to get.....any suggestions would be welcomed!! Thanks.

Big Cichlids!!!! :D
400 litres is about 105 gallons (US), so you could have a pair of Oscars, although I'd probably only have 1, add some Clown Loaches, maybe a geophagus (or 2)of some type, and then some other smaller fish (but not small enough for the oscar to eat!!!) of whatever type you choose that could go with the Oscar!!
Thats what I'd do with a 105g tank anyway!!!

I already have two cichlid tanks. I was thinking, maybe some oddballs????? :)

What about some Snakeheads or you could have a nice large shoal of Congo Tetras and then have a couple of Rays ;)

I don't think you could keep rays in a tank like that, they need a big footprint, which a 100 gallon tank does not have.
For oddballs, you could get a Fahaka puffer, They are very tough fish and can only be kept with bigger aggressive fish ( such as larger South American cichlids). They are beautiful fish that people say have loads of personality. They also get fairly big for puffers. One of the only cons is that they have a tendency to destroy your tank, so you may want to use mostly rocks for decoration and silicone them to the glass and other rocks.

Its not what your oscars wont eat. It really is how aggressive they are an what they will kill. For example. In a 150 Gallon tank of my sisters, she has two oscars (11 inch and a 13 inch). She added in a 6 inch fire mouth and it wasn't long before they locked jaws and went at it. The oscars tore the thing in half. Sorry to be graphic but if it isnt big enough for them to eat they will make them big enough to eat.

Just my experience with oscars.. :look:

Depends if the tank is low and wide cause they just need the floor space, suppose it also depends on the species of Ray cause some don't get that big ;)

:D Love rays.........but they are loadsa money. I would also need to change my gravel to sand, and I am not sure my tanks quite big enough for them anyway. Thanks for the replies and keep those suggestions coming........the more ideas, the higher the chances I will get my perfect tank!! :D

I don't know if your tank is big enough (I haven't done any research on the subject) but maybe you could get some sort of knife fish. If you got a clown knife you would have to switch to sand, but their are tons of others, like African Brown Knifes and the ever popular black ghost knife fish.

Howbout a huge Discus show tank, heavily planted, with 6-7 large discus and a shoal of about 15-20 cardinal tetras? That would look awesome, however would be a LOT of work and money. If you're up for it, take the chance... I'm sure it will be very rewarding.

hmmmm let me think.......How about 3 lima shovelnoses, a shoal of silver dollars, 3-5 hujeta gars( Ctenolucius hujeta), a oscar, 4 severums and a clean up crew of humbug cats and hoplos? You could get away with a oddball like a black ghost knife fish or a polypterus or two as well if you wanted.

The best thing is you can get all those fish locally

Wow CFC, would that lot really fit in a 100g?? I've got plans for a 125g early next year, and that would be great cos I want to move my severum into a bigger tank, and I didn't think you could go with that much!!

EDIT: I just though, were you thinking 400g??
