So my filter in my tropical tank wouldn't pump so i put a unused and uncycled pump in the tank. Now i'm getting really high readings i need some advice asap :( never had this happen first time.

My Readings for my tank is:
Ph- 7.2
High Ph- 8.8
Nitrite- 0ppm
Ammonia-1.0 ppm
Nitrate- 10-20ppm

usual Readings are:
ph- 7.6
high ph- 7.4
ammonia- 0.25/0ppm
nitrate-0ppm
Nitrite-0ppm

I've got a huge bowl of tap water with api tap water conditioner in it to try do a water change i can't leave it 24 hrs like i normally would, would it be ok to leave it 1hr. i have nothing in the house atm such as stress zyme :(

All help appreciated thanks

Take the media from the old filter, add it to the new as best as possible. Dechlorinator works instantly, no need to let the water sit at all.

Awesome i will do this now then, I've been putting the filter media into the water and trying to get some bacteria into it :( silly filter dying will never buy a stingray again!

Just done a 45% water change so hopefully this will bring the nitrate levels down a bit :( poor fishies

I'd be more worried about the ammonia, not the nitrate. The nitrates out of my tap are 40 - 50 ppm. Any reading for ammonia above 0.25 is very harmful to the fish. Water changes should help. Good luck!
