I currently have a 12 gallon tank with live plants and 4 cherry barbs, plus 2 checkerboard barbs. I was looking to add a few more fish but I am clueless on what to add. I know barbs are aggressive/fin nippers so I know my choices are limited. Would tiger barbs work? Or what other types of fish would also create a peaceful environment?

Please help me out here :)

Hi,

I certainly wouldnt add tiger barbs, the tank isnt big enough for tigers.

Cherry barbs are normally quite peaceful, unlike the tiger barbs. I'm not sure about the checkerboard ones.

Thanks. Thats what I figured. Im probably just leaning towards adding more of each group then.

Ah, interesting, brings out the differential scale colorings, which were always evident in the Rosy Barbs too, but not to that extent of contrast. A very nice color pattern! Thanks, WD

A beautiful little fish but very overlooked as many people don't find them colourful enough.

You should need 2-3 gallons of water per barb sized active fish. If you absolutely are fish crazy try a clown barb or some type of fish that sticks primarily to the bottom.
