Hi! I got my male betta (Bob) from a local fish store here. They simply labeled him as a “koi betta”... I’m new to bettas so I don’t know what kind of betta he is >< help!!

He seems to be a marble/koi plakat 'fighter' Betta :)

He's lovely fish :)

Just to warn you, koi bettas carry the marble gene which means his patterning may well change over time. Don't panic if this happens :)

Ohhh hope he stays handsome :) thanks!

As the others have said, Plakat Koi Betta.
His species is Betta splendens.
Plakat is a short fin fish.
Koi is the colour pattern that resembles Koi carp.

He looks like a Male Plakat Koi Betta Fish.

@essjay does make a good point, the term, “Marble” is used to describe a type of betta fish by its physical blotchy appearance but more importantly by the special genes they have called, jumping genes or Transposons as they are now called.

(^ this is a direct quote from this website...https://nippyfish.net/2009/06/11/marble-betta-fish-color-changing-genes/ read it, it might help you out! :))

Marbling is actually quite common in bettas. My betta was white with ice blue fins, and now he is dark blue and green with some black.
