Ok so my pair of Rams (german blues) have spawned for the second time. The first time they ate or rather the community ate the first batch of eggs this time i would like to raise the fry.

I have put an empty container floating and tied at the top of the tank put a little substrate in there along with the stones the eggs are on. I have added little holes to allow water to pass through and added an air stone to simulate the parents fanning is there anything else to do?

A pair of tweezers or eye dropped to take away any white eggs, apart from that I think everything else is covered. :good: Best of luck.

a little update come down this morning only had 3 white eggs the rest now have a little black blob in the middle of the eggs :D done a 25% water change on the container and in the process of setting up a fry tank :D

i now have a coulpe of wigglers already

Wow they are fast!!! great news on only 3 white eggs too.

yeah its shocked me a bit they are a real young pair i have three eggs wiggling atm looks like little earthworms trying to break through

ok a little update found an unturned stone with twenty or so white eggs underneath so im a little gutted all the others are still alive and our doing very well not free swimming but bouncing off the substrate with egg sacs still attached seems like i am doing everything right so far has anyone got any helpful pointers on feeding etc? im going to try and feed with hard boiled egg yolk first

Dont worry about feeding till the egg sack has gone. I have made that mistake in the past and just ended up fouling the water and syphoning out uneaten food with tiny fry is a nightmare, I used a bit of airline and syphoned into a tub so I could re-capture any that got sucked up. Never tried egg yolk till they were older I just crushed pellet with a pill crusher to a fine powder or if you can get it from your LFS some cyclops its like frozen newly hatched brine shrimp and other tiny stuff, :good:

i had been reserching the cyclops the general gist of what people were saying was that baby brine shrimp are too big and suggested the yolk i think this is all going to be trial and error for me checking them this morning i can't tell if the egg sac is still there or not :S

What about dried oak leaves?? Tis the season to get them, just pick them up.

Tis the season, and they shold have microscopic little bugs that breed and are apparently great fry food...

good point actually i only have beech in my garden i suppose ill have to take the kids to the park lol

Always worth a look isn't it. Just give them a rinse at home (i'd suggest in dechlorinated water, or tank water) then let them sink to the bottom.

Nice shelter for the fry too.

Only thing would be to take out any carbon filtration you may be using, as it catches the micro critters.
