I caught a bargain off eBay at the end of 2007 and got my 160 litre aquarium with everything included in order for me to set up my fish tank. 6 months later, after setting up a 90 litre and moving the few surviving barbs to it, we decided to start again on the 160 liitre due to (the LFS guess) a factor in the water, making the fish vulnerable to disease, which can't be measured. So anyway, we know have a well established 90 litre aquarium with 15 various barbs amongst it, and have decided for the 160 litre, we would like a few large feature fish, maybe even just one fish like a red devil etc. any suggestions for which we could have?

so what type of fish are you looking for? You want to stick to american cichlids?

so the larger tank may have issues w/water quality right? have you cleaned it...if so how?

Well about a month ago, I bought a new tank to move the survivors into, which have settled in well along with their new tankmates. And we then completely started again with the larger tank, cleaning it down, fitting an undergravel filter etc. It is now reastablishing, so I thought, 'whilst I wait I may as well get some ideas for fish to put in it'. And my mother is so squeemish about aggresive fish, (-her face when i mentioned pirhanas, priceless) so I'd like to keep clear of majorly aggresive ones.

Feature Fish : have you considered either a Male Green Terror (Golden Saum), or a Jack Dempsey? both can be fairly vicious but are very pretty - you could maybe include some dithers too....with caution.

you could (if you wanted more than a wet pet) have either a pair of Sajica, a pair of Salvini, a pair of convicts, a pair of Blue Acaras, pair of firemouths) + dithers

possibly you might want to look into having smaller more sociable cichlids in a community, kribs, rams etc
