i had a 10 gallon fish tank. i'm putting the fish into a 20 gal and now have a free tank to use. While shopping, the fish lady at the pet store said i could try an "african dwarf frog" for my 20 gal fish tank. i asked if that would require special diets. She replied (and tell me if she's wrong) that the frog would do just fine eating the fish flake food that sunk to the bottom of the tank. Is that correct? I was told by someone else that i need to get live food for the frog

i also asked if it was bad to mix frogs with the fish b/c i was wondering if

a) they required different water temperatures and
B) would the frog "drown" if i put it into a tank that was filled to the brim with water? it would have no room to sit in free air on a rock

i am proposing a solution, which is to make the 10 gallon tank into a little terrarium, half filled with water. If that is the case, where can i read about what kind of animals i can mix together in one tank. Will it be safe to have frogs, crabs, newts, and lizards all living together in a 10 gallon tank that's half filled with water and has some rocks above the water surface? thanks

Firstly an ADF can live with fish that arent big enought to eat it. And they will eat dead things like fish food.

secondly what you are talking about is a Pauladium(SP?) / Vivarium and you COULD keep all of those types of animals together but I think it would be a bad Idea in a tank so small. Not only would it look crowded you would need to coordinate the variouse species according to size and deal with Toxins and Waste produced. Best to stick to one or two symilar animals at a time in such a small system.

Now as for getting one started you simply cover a pile of gravle with a layer of dirt set up whatever filtration you plan on useing andadd plants and light.

yeah all i have is the 10 gallon tank for this experiment. i'll start with 2 ADF. I've spent hte afternoon reading different articles on this. and i'd like to do a half and half setup where the tank is 70% filled with water or something.

so now i guess my options are to keep 2 ADF by themselves or include a newt. Will the firebellied newt poison my frogs to death or vice versa?

and now the issue of crickets has come up. What do i feed these ADF's? small living crickets? fish flakes? or frozen bloodworms?

is a filtration system required or only "Recommended" for ADF's? i know it's required for fish but i dunno if frogs require it since frogs don't have filtration systems in nature.
