ok so im getting a 125 gallon tank in the near future.. i heard some people talking about sumps and i was wondering if you need to have these with a big tank.. does it just filter it a lot faster or is it essential to have in order to have a 200+ tank... i know this is probably a dumb question but i want to be safe. would it be ok to have a a biowheel 330 on it and possibly another 170 for better filtration.. im pretty sure this would be ok but i i mainly want to know what this sump is..any comments are welcome.. sorry for the noob questions

I'd quite like to know what a 'sump' is myself does it just pump water around the tank? - p.ssorry 'Slayer' know this doesn't answer your question!

hi,
i think a sump is a tank under your fish tank that you fill with lots of media that you use to filter your tank. one end of the sump would be where water from your fish tank would enter and having gone through your filtering media gets pumped back in your fish tank by means of a water pump at the opposite end of the sump. if tank in your lfs haven't got filters in them they have probably got a sump of some kind, you could ask to see theirs
