Natural Spring Mineral Water

It is never a good idea to top off a tank. You are better off doing a small water change. Yes, spring water is fine. If you have a test kit, test the spring water so you know exactly how it will affect your water in the tank.

Just out of curiosity, are you using this water to lower pH or something of the sort?

Also, this seems relatively expensive, so have you found a cheap source of bottled water?

Hi, The water in my tank has evaporated abit and just wanted to bring the water level back to normal, so i thought it would be easier to buy a 5 litre bottle of water instead of treating the tap water....thanx for your reply

Ahh... I did not read the first post correctly.

Question: provided you do frequent water changes, why exactly can one not top off the water? I know that the water evaporates and not the solutes, but if the concentration of solutes should not change, in the end, with the addition of a solvent...

most bottled spring water i see had a high ph. the one i got in my hand right now has a ph of 8.1, i would not add that to my tank when my tap water has a ph of 7.6 :D

Hi all, i'm trying to find out if it's ok to use bottled water or not?...just can't work out what to use because some people are saying it's bad and some that it's good. I have a Evian bottle in front of me and here is what it says on the lable :

Compostion in mg/litre :
Calcium 78
Bicarbonates 357
Magnesium 24
Sulphates 10
Sodium 5
Chlorides 4.5
Potassium 1
Nitrates 3.8
Silica 13.5
Dry Residue at 180oC : 309mg/l - PH = 7.2

Thanx for all your help!!!

IMO it would be fine, as am sure it's not much compared to the volume of the tank even if the composition is different from your tap water it would only cause a very small change.
