As my lodgers will be leaving soon  My tanks are going to be rather empty  and I have spotted a picture of a nandopsis islantus and know where to get one from, but I am struggling to find out any information on them, what size they grow, temperment, tank size and temp etc. any help appreciated

I cant even find a picture of one  Show me show me show me  Sorry Im no help, not a fish Ive heard of

I found a forum with them on some lovely shots of them, grow about 8" so would fit :hey:

I only found this by typing in Cichlasoma Islantus, so presuming they are JD family.

Not my cup of tea, but if you like them, once everybody is settled after the move around, we shall plan that trip to oddballs :good:

I cant decide between on of these, a salvini, another jd or 2 or a choccy to replace Harry, trouble is everything I look at nothing comes close to Harry

most Nandopsis are pretty aggressive ... in the midas/red devil league I think. More colourful, and a bit smaller though. Behaviour-wise, a bit like smaller versions of dovii from what I gather.
Don't be thinking of tankmates if you're getting a pair.

My vote would be to get a choc though !!!! I am loving owning Biff, my choc, again. Slower in everything he does than a sev, but watches everything with his eagle eyes. A very intelligent fish indeed. Can't beat that "smashed in the face by a brick" look of the adults either !

Hmm maybe a bit more aggressive than I was looking for. Now you have put me off a choccy as I already have a fish with the smashed in the face by a brick look with Chops

Do you mean "istlanum" a species that used to be in the cichlasoma genus before it was split up

edit: just checked the link star and yep they're what i'm thinking off, but get to 12" and as said aren't too far away from the midas in personality (i.e. intelligent but aggressive)

Oh and i should mention they are extremely rare,

It's definately a rather different "smashed in the face with a brick" look though. Maybe more of a "smashed in the face with a brick wall" look. :look:

Thanks Davo that I think is the right one, I googled the name on the add. I am considering one with the Texas & JD

how about a pearsei cichlid star  i know that ross had them on his last order list :hey:

Nice little fish. Finnage is very similar to that of a Jack, and the females face looks very Jack like, untill you see the males nuchal hump lol.

I'm with Minxy on this also, not my type but each to their own.

You know i'll also encourage a JD rather than a choccy! Especially if can get you an electric blue from one of my spawns ;)

I like the Pearsei has been suggested :hey: I will have to see how bare the tanks look after the weekend  Although I can see to start with just moving some of the juvi rotties into other tanks give them some more room, knowing my luck they will pair and breed
