Hi what sort of filtration do you have in the tank? and have you added anything new recently like coloured gravel ornaments etc? also what food are you feeding?
Agree with betta fish, the first thing to do (assuming there are no problems with your tap water) is to perform a large gravel-clean-water-change using good technique - which means that the return water should be treated with conditioner (a product that removes chlorine/chloramine) dosed at perhaps 1.5x what the product instructions tell you, and that the water is roughly temperature matched with what you took out of the tank during the gravel-clean (your hand is good enough for this temperature matching.)
Next, as mentioned, the members will need to know everything in the tank or added to the water. What's the substrate, the decorations, any added chemicals or cleaning techniques done and what types and amounts of feedings -- all these will help the members with their detective work.
Hello,
I'm new to this hobby so I am no expert. I have read some topics where bogwood has been added and then experience tanned water, thats if you have added any. I notice WD is on the case so you are in good hands.
Yes, good comment Skins, the tannins given off by new bogwood can be very strong colors. Usually they start out yellow and the continue to darken to a brown/black that is nearly idential to the way tea ranges and looks. It is indeed a possibility that this might be the red look described.
hi guys i havent done the water change yet but righ now my tank consists of
one platy
two guppies
one oto
one dwarf gurami
three lage green plants (plastic)
one small green and red plant (plastic)
two pirate ships each with one orange and three small green plants attached
blue gravel
my filter is a tetra care whisper filter with a 90-GPH motor
for food i have tetramin
I'd look for some larger glass jars or such and begin some experiments. Put each pirate ship in its own container with dechlored tap water, put some blue gravel in a smaller jar by itself. If you can, separate all decorations to their own jar. It may take a couple weeks for the tint to show up but by separating them, you should find the culprit. If there are kids involved you can have them keep entries for each jar daily in a notebook and talk about what experiments are all about. Let us know how it goes. WD
yes my tank is cycled and the plants that are attached to my pirate ships have plastic stems but the leaves appear to be some kind of fabric though i doubt theyre silk they arent very smooth or soft
the lighting i have is a full hood with two 30 watt screw in bulbs
btw the company is marineland ( i got everything in a kit)
If you take some of the tank water in a jar and hold it up to the light does it still look pink or is it clear? When did you add the ornaments to the tank? it looks like they may be leaching out colours if they are new, perhaps remove them and soak them in a bucket on their own, I can't see the filter in your pic but you may just have it well hidden! if you angle the outlet so it breaks the surface it should remove the bubbles, does it have a flow adjuster? you may want to increase it if so and perhaps run some carbon to help get rid of the pink but yes as others have said a water change would be good also, I hope your tank is cycled!
ok so ill try to help you help me as best i can
one of my plastic plants has red in it
i dont have my own test kit so i cant tell you any thing as far as testing goes but the temp is 74 degrees F (my heater quit earlier but its running now).
i put my water in a jar looked at it in the light and its still kind of pink.
i added the ornaments when i got the tank so like a month ago.
i dont think ill be able to angle my filter cause its also my aerator and to get it high enough the result would i would have a realy wet computer desk and a really dry fishtank
no i dont have a flow ajuster as far as i know.
if by running carbon you mean having a carbon filter cartrige then thats covered.
and of course my tank is cycled
i hope this can help you to help me !
sound like the colour is leaching
out of one of you plants to me heaters
do go and and off they have a thermostat
in side them how long did it take to cycle it
and did you use ammonia
