I am laying myself out for all to see here. They say a picture is worth a thousand words so I guess a video is worth at least a million…

I would appreciate any comments anyone has, good or bad, on my first ever tank setup.

I have mentioned on this board that I am in the third week of a fish-IN cycling and trying to keep everyone alive and well; following much of the advice I have learned here. Unfortunately, I didn’t learn not to get fish hence my fish-IN situation.

It’s a 26 gallon tank and the stock is listed under the video. You can’t see the plecos but I can say that one is eating the algae chips, the other is just static in the corner of the tank.

The ammonia rose a bit this morning (0.5) and I changed about 40% of the water. I expect to be changing water on almost a daily basis for the time being.

Would you consider the water cloudy?

Not sure what you will get out of the video…
Here’s the link: My Tank

Thanks for your ongoing help!

Hey PaulQ.

NICE JOB. It really looks nice. I like the natural looking gravel and your efforts at planting. I think, too, that the two plants up front with white edging are non-aquatic. Don't ask me why but big stores are selling these as aquatic species but they basically look good for a while and then rot. I'm envious of your water sprite in the right corner... I think that is what it is. I have a very low light set up and that one is a bit hard for me to grow well.

Regarding water cloudiness. Pretty typical in new set ups. Seems to be part of the succession of a new tank to a mature tank. I think it will clear even more as time goes on but you can try filter floss or a very fine filter material to see if you can clear it up earlier.

Keeping testing the stats and keep humping the water buckets. (Better yet get a python for water changes... saves my back).
:good:

I think all of you might be right because I keep hearing that. I decided to leave them in for just a bit to see what they do. I will remove them if they start to show signs of decay.

Thanks so much for all of your kind comments (so far :) ).

Yeah, PetCo is notorious for selling non-aquatic plants as aquatic... Most in the tubes with the gel stuff around the roots saying "TRUE AQUATIC" BULL!!!! Even most of the plants they have IN their tanks are not aquatic
