I got my tank from Aldi, had problems with first light - called Pennine and got a replacement...now roughly 6 weeks lately..poof! I have live plants so need light!

Anybody know of any lights I could buy?

For now just get a lamp or something and place it where the plants can get the light. Check the fuse in the plug (or just put a new one in). Buy a spare light.... Other than that get an electrician out..

You are not alone.

have you seen this thread?

Was also going to say I remember reading a large thread re this problem.

I'd personally ring them up on Tuesday and they should sent you out a replacement.

If it were me I'd just get a new light fitting/light from somewhere else and chalk the cost up to experience. I very nearly bought one of those Aldi tanks too but couldn't afford it at the time. The one I did buy had a filter that broke in about 10 days so I just bought a new (hopefully better) one rather than bother getting it refunded and have the same happen again.

I expect someone can recommend you some good lights to go for :)

That thread was actually the first I found when I joined the forum, specifically to find out what to do the first time the ruddy light broke :)

After looking over that other thread I would also just get a different light. With the aldi bulb being totally seal to the base like that it is a bad product IMO. It should not be made like that. Bulbs will need to be replaced anyway. Especially with live plants it is "suggested" to replace the bulb about every year. If it is just a 13 watt power compact they sell desk lights and work lights that use those. You can also get those bulbs at 7000K from home improvement stores for a few dollars.

I personally would take apart the base and see how they are wiring down their. The issue though is if the base is totally sealed and how they have attached the bulb within the base. All flouro bulbs contain mercury so you really don't want to risk breaking or damaging them.
