Hi, i havent posted since i said hello about 3 weeks ago,

This morning my new tank arrived, its massive!

I havent decided what fish yet i thought i have plenty of time whilst setting up and cycling.

I have a API test kit and i have just tested my tap water and I thought i would try the goldfish tank too.

My question is really could a use some of the sponge filter from the goldie coldwater tank? its very small maybe only 30 litres. Would such a small amount of sponge be worth it for a 240 litre tank? and of course its coldwater

Many thanks in advance

Coldwater & Tropical utilise the same bacteria so you can use your old media. Asd for it being too small an amount, anything is better than nothing.

Gratz on the new tank

Yes you can seed the new filter with the old sponge, and I also recommend that you upgrade the goldfish to the new tank because a 30 litre is not big enough for a fish species which can potentially reach over 30 cm long (for commons, over 20 cm for fancies) and is quite messy.

I agree KittyKat. Move the goldie/s into the new tank and all their filter media into the new filter; you'll have much happier fishies :good:
