Hi all,
Thought I would come and post an update here for those who helped me out in my last thread.
All has been going well. The Ick problem has not resurfaced, and the tank has had 0 Ammonia and 0 Nitrite reading for about 3 weeks now. My Nitrates rise very slowly. I dont know if it is because my fish are all small or what, but I am almost up to 2 weeks here without a water change and I am still under 20 nitrates. (I am lucky.. tap water has 0 nitrates).
All my fish lived through the cycle crash, with my Betta getting the worst of it. He had ich before, as I said in my last post, after that he had a small bout with swim bladder disorder (only lasted a day - constipation) then he was attacked by some Fin rot. I pulled him out of the tank, as I believe the current from 2 filters and the nippyish tetras were stressing him out. He lived 3 days in a large vase (wife wouldnt let me set up another tank in our tinyville apartment...) with daily water changes and medication. I then had to think of a solution to his future living arrangements.
So, last weekend I purchased 2 penplax tank dividers and modified them to create a T-shape using aquarium silicone and some suction cups I had lieing around. This divider seperated one end of my tank and created two 6"x6"x18" chambers, one of which I moved my betta back into. The other chamber I added another betta and put a nice (fake be-it) plant along the common wall between them. They both seem very happy, my original betta is healing up and actually built a bubble nest in his new home. The chambers are cycled, heated and filtered with the rest of the tank, put provide an area where the betta's have next to no current and no other fish nipping at them. They once in awhile flare at each other, which is healthy in moderation.
The rest of the tank still has my Clown Pleco, 6 Peppered Cories, 8 X-Ray Tetras and I added a Dwarf Honey Gourami (cutest little thing in the tank). They all get along real well, the cories seem much better now since the tank has completed it's cycling issues, the tetras are always active, Clown Pleco actually shows himself once in awhile and the Dwarf Gourami seems happy. He has his hiding spots, and likes bugging the cories during shrimp pellet time.
As the tank matures I hope to complete my stocking with a pair German Blue Rams.
Right now I have about 25" of fish (current size) which should grow to a max of about 33". (Slighty over 1" per gallon) however I have 2 filters which turn over the water 8x per hour and my nitrates rise very slowly so I am going to monitor is for awhile and see what happens.
For those who didnt see the other thread I have a 29gal tank with 2 Filters and lots of decorations (albiet .. fake).
Anywho, I hope to take some pictures soon and post them up here. Cheers.
