Just thought I would put up some pics of my new Sajica cichlid pair. Sorry for some of the water marks on the glass and the bad glare in pic number two. I've had these guys for about two weeks now and they have already spawned and have fry. I'll try and get a full tank shot later on tonight. Today was really sunny and I couldn't get a full tank shot without there being bad glares on the glass.

Here is my male

Nice Pair , Mine look alot different to yours

Thanks!

How do you mean yours look different? Do you mean color wise? It could take a little while before yours settle in and get comfortable and start showing their colors. Also remember mine are in breeding mode so they are showing their best colors right now.

Lovely sajica, what size tank do you have them in?

My male is quite aggressive towards quite a few of my fish even though it's only a few inches.

Do yours have any tank mates?

Also are you selling any of the fry if they survive?

:good:

Nice Sajicas. My female went dark when my pair bred but my male never did.
Yours look really good.
Good luck with them.
Im glad to see more people having Sajicas.

jayjay, I've got them in a 30 gallon tank just with a small Syno catfish. Yes they are aggressive especially the males. Today he spent a good part of the day chasing the Syno around. I'm hoping they will settle a bit more or else I think I might need to add somemore wood to the tank. Hopefully some of the fry will survive and then yeah I would be selling them.

RadaR, yeah the female seems to be a bit darker than the male especially the black stripe on her side is a lot darker than the males. I know there used to be another member on here who kept Sajicas but I am not sure if they are still around. I've liked the Sajicas for awhile now and have been wanting to get them and finally I just said to myself set up a tank and just get them. It's good to have a couple other members on here who keep them. We got ourselves a little club! :D

I might be that person who keeps Sajicas as ive made numerous replys to posts about these adorable fish :)

The first time my Sajica bred the Syno hoovered all the fry up and the male then turned on the female and they had to be seperated, since then ive re introduced them to each other (in a different tank to the syno) and successfully bred them twice and got around 80 fry from each spawn which eventually turned into juveniles of 2" which then went to my LFS for other people to enjoy.

At moment i still have around 30 1.5" Saj in my breeding tank that i havent yet sent to the LFS (some grow a lot faster than others when you have 80 of them)

Btw anyone after Sajica for free and live in the Midlands UK, I would be happy to let you have some.

And yes the female will change colours when breeding taking on a much darker colour (almost black) to the body and losing the normally gold flecks of the fins to a more pale white colour. (well thats what always happens to my female).

Great Pics Elisabeth, Good condition your adults are in and the pictures are pretty neat too

scrappy, what did you feed the tiny fry? I fed mine brineshrimp and even though I harvested them correctly minimizing the chances of choking te fish with un hatched eggs, I still found that numbers of the fry dropped loads everyday. I only have about 20.
The most recent spawn has been a total disaster to, all the fry just declined over the days and aventually disappeared.

I think you can feed them tetra doromin cichlid sticks, and flake,

Just crush the sticks/flake, then put it around the fry

BTW I think this is what scrappy done

Yep scrappy it was you I was thinking of! :D Your pair are stunning!! I can't wait for my pair to grow up and look like yours. Way to go on your fry too..they look so nice and healthy. :good:
