We need stats. What levels are Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate? Any signs of disease?

Prob, ammonia poisoning, are their gills red and how many do youhave. IMO 1,000 gallons is the minimum for koi, as their average full size is 3.5 feet and the biggest one know was 4.5 feet

Agreed, leave the koi to the ponds. But I don't think you meant inches

How long have you had them for? They might be suffering from growth stunting. Do you have any pictures of them in their current state?

Ok well i see they are not that big only 7 to 8 inches now . Bit what can i do for that amonia poisoningthat you guys talking about. The water is in good quality took it to get tested to the pet shop to make sure.

They might only be 7 to 8 inches because the provided space isn't giving their bodies room to grow. Which may sound fine and jolly, except their internal organs are continuing to grow while their bodies can't, which leads to deformities and death. That's why I was asking how long you've had them. Koi grow really really quickly, they're very -not- suitable for indoor aquaria.

Try and get your own test kit instead of taking the LFS's water advice. they're usually incorrect about what's "good in quality" and they tend to use test strips, liquid test kits are accurate, test strips aren't.

Ammonia poisoning isn't something you really treat. Just keep the water clear and it'll go away or it won't. There are loads of different diseases that cause lethargy. Without more info or pictures, it's hard to say what's going on with the fish.

These little gys have been in this tank for about 8 months. I had some that were here and they were 22 to 24 inches they were beautiful.for the last 3 days they hav been hanging out at the botton. And they only come up for food but they get happy and then they go back down. I said maybe they are tired. And i said i never saw a tired fish.lol. in the night .last night they were swimming ok. Do u think they just relaxing for christmas.lols

Ohhh and they guy at thenpet shop is my buddy he used the liquid test .have been dealing with those guys for years.but they understand why the koi were not stressed i keep the water in good shape all thetime . I also hav a 400 gallon filter on a 55"bow. Ithink thats good.water is very clear.

Unless they're catfish or loaches or eels, then they shouldn't be laying on the bottom of the tank. If you can get some pictures, that would be good. Like I said, a lot of things can cause lethargy.

Wat the is lethargy
leth·ar·gy
1.the quality or state of being drowsy and dull, listless and unenergetic, or indifferent and lazy; apathetic or sluggish inactivity.
2. an abnormal state or disorder characterized by overpowering drowsiness or sleep.

If your fish are laying on the bottom of the tank, that means they're lethargic. Most likely sick, stressed, or in pain in some way. They will eat normally in most cases, like you said, but that doesn't mean they're okay. That just means they're hungry. But fish are always hungry.

Imo you should take a long term investment in a pond if you want to keep them long term. How long do your koi tend to live? or do you rehome them when they get too large? healthy koi can live well over 20 years.

I have no problem with people who want to keep monster fish, if and only if they have a proper place to keep the fish as they grow. For Koi, the only acceptable place for koi is a very, very large aquarium of 500 - 1000 gallons, which most of us can not do, or a pond. A 55 gallon with seven koi is much too small.
