My Firemouths Bit Me

Today, i have had the sad job of taking the fry from the new first time parents, collected most of them, but the parents hated me doing it, and acctually bit me They were not happy fishys
I noticed the parents gathering up the fry of the few i have missed.
Hopefully when the fry are free swimming i will put them in my fluval chi 25l for a while, its is only newly setup, also will the fry be OK with sparkling gouramis, and shrimp (cheery and bamboo)?

Any advice will be appreciated

Comes quite sharp doesnt it being nipped my angry parent fish, been there with Elliotti, convicts, severum. Thank heavens I managed to spot the texas about to spawn before they did, and of course I have been bitten by a certain oscar!!.

I think you will find the gourami may want to snack on the fry, although I am not sure how big sparkling gourami are (only kept, blue, gold, pearl & snakeskin). You might be best keeping them in a seperate tank altogether till they are about 1/2"-1".

Every time i look at the tank now the male is there puffing out his gills,Haha i have read your story, so im guessing it was Chops might read it again. was a great story

The sparkling gouramies are about 1.5 cm long, i find they dont eat my smallest of shrimp, si i was hoping they would be alright. I will let the tank mature a bit more, until i add the firemouths, so they should grow a bit first, in size.

I would if i could have another tank , but i have only just managed to let my mom have another tank in my room so i will have to try and make do with what i have got

If the gourami are that small then (I think I know which ones they are now) you "should" be ok

Oh, Ok great i wont put the fry in until they are about 1cm so i think they should be fine.

How did you catch the tiny fry?

I used a net, i didn't have anything else, I scooped out a little amount of sand with them, but i got most of them i'm going to get a turkey baster.

they are now swimming but it seams as a lot are.missing, but I vanity see adjust dead bodies so.hope they are just hiding
will have to find better accommodation for the next time

You will get some just die off, natures way, I had that with my severums, I didnt interfere by adding chemicals or anything just clean water, makes for strong healthy fish
