My cats just come back from the vets. Today my cat has been neutered he has also been microchiped.
He isn't as sleepy as the vet said he would be and he has ate lots of chicked to help rebuild the tissue.
he seems fine now. He has got to have a check up on friday to see how he is.

Have your cats been neutered or spayed?

i think they should be left alone to get on with their lives and especially with dogs they are really different when they are snipped

My cat was neutered right after we got him, I've had him for over 10 years now. My grandmom feeds a ton of cats that live around her cause someone let their cat just roam around and never spade or neutered it. I think there are around 15 still around there but my grandmom tries to catch them and give them to this lady who gets them spade and neutered. If she didn't there would be so many I dont even know what could be done. So yes I think people should spay or neuter their pets, especially if they let them roam.

If you are interested in previous polls and rather heated debates, do a search on "neuter".

Here is one of them - sadly the poll information has been lost when the forum got upgraded.

You did the right thing to have him neutered. Well done  Apart from the fact that you've almost no doubt helped to reduce the amount of cat fights / cat accesses / spread of feline disease and zillions of unwanted kittens - you have also made the life of your pet far more pleasurable and relaxed.

Hope he heals quickly !

All of my pets with the exception of my rodents are neutered and spayed. It's a wonderful thing. About 95% of male dogs that aren't neutered will get prostate cancer. And females that aren't spayed have about a 95% chance of getting mamary tumors, uterin infections, or uterin cancer.
Spaying and neutering is a great thing. The animals become more well behaved. Males won't run off as often because of the fact that they won't want to be constantly finding a mate. And they lack the hormonal surges that an unfixed animal has. Let alone no messy heat cycles with females.

Plus look at all of the accidental puppies and kittens. I wish there was a law that required all dogs and cats not owned by a registered breeder to be fixed. There wouldn't be tons of animals in shelters then.

or wandering around on the streets. :/ there was a litter of 4 half-grown kittens playing by the sidewalk on my way home tonight; while they didn't flee in terror, they also didn't respond to any calls or attempts to approach them.

that brings the number of strays living just on my block up to an even dozen.

Absolutely

I wish spaying and neutering wasn't as necessary as it is, because I'd love to keep my pets "whole" if I thought it conscionable to do so, but it is very, very important. Unspayed and unneutered pets are part of the reason there are so many unwanted animals in the world. My dad has a friend who has well over 20 cats because none have been fixed and they just continue reproducing... do you think these animals are properly cared for or ever get vet attention? Of course not. The guy doesn't feed them enough and basically just ignores them. We're pretty sure he's now in the practice of destroying unwanted kittens, and I guarantee you his methods aren't humane.

Apart from that, getting pets spayed and neutered also increases their lifespans

I wish everyone would share these views!! That would decrese the amounts of times that people show up at my shelter with boxes of kittens, or litters of pups. It's such a shame. And with low cost clinics anymore it's not that expensive to get some of your animals fixed.

And Synirr your dad's friend should contact a shelter to come take the cats. Too bad we're not in Texas.

Yeah, but he's a "country boy" if you know what I mean... it would be pretty difficult to convince him their lives are worth anything, even just a simple trip to the shelter (it's only like 5 miles from his workplace) :/

I totally agree with everyone here. My cats are all spayed/neutered. The best part about neutering male cats is they don't spray if they are neutered. Nothing stinks more than a male cat's urine.

Female cats that are in heat are terrors to deal with. The constant mewling, howling, chirping, it can drive a person crazy.

I can see no good reason not to spay or neuter cats that are not owned by registered breeders. It is saddening to see so many cats and dogs left at shelters for no other reason than their owner didn't care enough about their welfare to have them fixed. Worse are animals forced to live in the streets because they don't have a home.

The cost isn't really prohibative any more. I know in the past it used to cost around $200 to spay a cat(at least here it did). Now I can get it done for $25. There are many programs out there to help low income families have their cats and dogs spayed or neutered for little or no fee at all.

When I was little, we got the pretty little kitty we have now...We adopted her...I don't know why, but she wasn't spayed.
She gave birth to like 8 kittens.
I remember we kept them in a kids pool in the bathroom. One died by drowning in the toilet, another by suffication under a couch cushion.
The other 6 we sold....I wish we woulda' kept some.
I wanna get a male and female dog pair when I'm older, and have them 'breed' then nuter/spay them.

i got my cat from an rspca shelter.
they neuter & microchip every animal that they rescue
as it should be!

not neutering on "moral grounds" is silly, don't treat the animals as people. all those poor neglected puppies and kittens dumped in rivers in bags. makes me so sad. :(

We got our dog, Mac, desexed when he was 5 months old. Being a male dog its not like we had to deal with unwanted litters or a female on heat etc but our concern was for the other dogs. Imagine Mac at the beach, an entire female maltese comes along, Mac gets a little bit over excited. 6 months later we are at the beach and there is the little maltese female, with 4 little puppies running after her, with the exact same markings as Mac.....hmmmm......"that wasn't my dog"

Its a contentious issue though since there was a rather large female white something-or-another at our local off leach beach last weekend. Our dog was playing with it, as he does with all dogs.....and the owner came and chastised us saying that the female was on heat and they didn't want male dogs around it. We then explained that our Mac was desexed but they still moved to another part of the beach. I watched and saw other male dogs "checking the female out".....

Now its fair enough the owner being protective of his ***** on heat....BUT....if you are that paranoid about it DON'T take it to an off leash area.....I mean, there are no signs saying "your male dog must be desexed to enter this beach". And as for a female dog who got impregnated by a male dog at such an area I have noone to blame but the owners of the female. Taking a female dog ON HEAT to a off leash area is just asking for trouble IMHO.....

I agree with getting them fixed, the only problem I have with it is I think that doing it too young is wrong. I'm sorry, but I've seen dogs that were nuetered at a young but supposed 'safe' age range, yet these dogs don't even have normal genitalia, i.e. a penis. It had what looked like a female part where the males should be. I think doing it before they reach a more mature and fuller developed age cuts the hormones off too early.

It makes me just sick to look in the paper around here and see all the purebreed or designer mixes for sale around here and know that there are dogs and cats up at the local shelter just desperate for homes that aren't going to get them.
