Hey all,

I've got a high flow, bright setup that seems to favour moss growth over fern growth.

In fact, I'm almost certain that the ferns are dying and and now a few bits of thread algae are starting to appear (since I added a weekly does of liq. ferts - so I may stop this).

My lighting schedule may be a little long (7am-11pm).

Is it worth trimming the leaves from the java ferns (trident and narrow leaf) in the hope it will encourage it to grow back?

Any help is really appreciated! This si the only tank where I just simply cannot grow any kind of java fern!

What are your water parameters (hardness in PPM and PH mostly)? How much light? i know javas don't take well to a ton of light :/ Also how do you have it planted and in what substrate?
Edit: they are also very slow growing plants.

stats: pH 7.2, KH 4/GH 5, temperature 24'C.

lights 7am-11pm

have arcadia arcpod 11Watt
and a BOYU 12" triple T5 over head (with 2 'standard' white tubes that came with it, and one Interpet 'daylight'.

The java ferns are tied onto wood with cotton.

I've never had them not grow before, and in all my other tanks they do fine.

As I said, the moss growth is pretty rampant!

Do you think this is too much light?

Light has been reduced (comes on for 2 shorter photo periods instead of one long one)
