Does a plattie give birth to its fry all at once or does it happen over a few days?
A week or two ago I discovered four plattie fry in the tank Two of which I 've managed to save and are doing well. however during tank maintainace today I spotted another fry which was obviously younger than the original ones.. I've had no male plattie for about 3 weeks now since he died. how long are livebearers pregnant for .. I cant say I've notice the "gravid spot " on either of my females .

Livebearers store sperm, and can continue to release fry for ~6 months without ever seeing a male. That's what makes them so fun ;)

Almost forgot....they can deliver over 48 hours, but normally its within 12. I would assume that it was both females, or the fry you just found was simply smaller then the rest when it was born. That could explain why you didn't see it at first...the smaller you are, the easier it is to hide :)

most usaly it take about a hour to an hour and a half for them to get done but if they are nto cared for and stressed all the time it can take a logn time withc is bad for the fry...  :/
