I bought a couple of moonlight gourami's today. Since they have been in the tank all they have been doing is chasing. To start with the adult was chasing the younger one all round the tank. I then rearranged the tank a little bit and also tried to catch the male one to seperate it, though I failed to so let it be. Now the tables have turned, the younger one is chasing the adult. Any ideas?

I know one of them is younger as it has a black spot on it's tale.

If they are not chasing they spend time on the opposite sides of the tank.

I also have: 6 x Neon Tetra's, 2 x Black Mollies and 2 x Red Platies.

I want to sort this out as they are sort of disturbing everything else in the tank. The Gourami's are about 3/3.5 inches and I think they are both males?

My tank is 60 litres with a temperature of 26C.

Strange, both have been hiding behind the pump/plants but have just turned the tank light off and both have have come out to play, swimming as a friendly pair around the tank. Must be just shy fish.

I may be wrong but after the reading up i have been doing about gourami, 60l is a bit too small for them.

Im sure someone will correct me if im wrong!

OK. Thanks. I will see what others say, if the tank is too small should I return them and would the Pet Shop accept them back?

At the moment they have just been hiding behind plants all morning.

They should accept them back and they should have asked you about your tank before buying them really.

But hang fire until someone that knows a bit more about them replies

I have a feeling it is for Moonlight (or I would have considered them and my tank is 60L) but it's ok for Dwarfs and Honeys. Not loads though obviously. I'm getting 2 female Honeys for mine among other fish. or possibly a Dwarf but I'd prefer the Honeys

My moonlight gourami is twice the size of my other adult gourami and they do need a larger aquarium. I couldn't have said how large so I just googled it and for moonlights the recommendation is minimum size of 30 US gallons / 113.6 litres.
