Hi everybody,

I've had my "lightly planted" tank up and running for about 9 months now. It is going well.

Tank stats:
56 gallon - column style tank
28W bulb (hence the LOW light) - lighting is 7 hours a day - just boosted from 6 because I didn't have any algae, and I like having a bit for my BN pleco to graze on during the day/night.

My plants are:

numerous amazon swords - various sizes as some are growing faster than others. They are doing nicely with no extra effort on my part. On occasion, I have a leaf turn, but it is very rare.
Java fern - doing fine and I've been able to propagate it to add some more color.
Anubias - growing nicely.
Elodea/anacharis - surprise, surprise - growing well and getting trimmed... it appears a bit "leggy" compared to when I first bought it, but I think it is because of the decrease in lighting from the store to home.

My question is this: How do you suppose the moneywort will do in my tank? Are there any potential pitfalls I should watch out for? Will my BN plec eat this plant... he seems completely uninterested in my other plants - although I did see him do a quick graze over one anubias plant the other day.

BTW, does anyone else have experience with the addition of a BN cutting down pest snails in a tank? I've had pest snails in my tank since my first addition of live plants. They never got crazy in number (when I was around... when my dad took care of the tank while I was on vacation with the family is a different story.) but I've sucked them up during water changes. I also would see snail eggs around, every now and then. But, since I've added the BN, I haven't seen the snail eggs at all, nor have I seen as many pest snails as before - in fact, my sister wanted some of my snails for her kids (why, I don't really understand fully) but when I went to net her one, I had a hard time finding one! Just wondering...

The moneywort should do fine, but IME it might melt when introduced into a new aquarium, i don't have experience with BN Plecos but I have heard of them cutting down on the population size of pest snails

Yeah, all stem plants will melt when they are first introduced to a new tank... My anacharis/elodea shed its leaves like it was Autumn! I just vacced up the leaves, removed the brown stems and left the green stems to produce new leaves. I figured the moneywort would do that as well. I just wanted to know if there was any other sort of thing to watch out for.

not all stem plants will melt, some of the more sturdier stems tend to keep there leaves. Bacopa is one of these that tends to keep its leaves. A nice little plant and a fast grower. :good:

So, is there anything to look for with the moneywort, or any type of issue with the lighting I have and this plant?

it should grow quite happily, i can't see you having problems with it. If you do you know where we are. :good:

:D

That's true. I will be certain to check in if I have trouble. I've split the bunch up and put little groupings everywhere all over the tank to find where it will grow best. I might be off to get some Cryptocorynes... I need some more height in the tank.

One step at a time. ;)
