My son's Molly just gave birth today to about 10 new fry. Would they be safe in the same tank with the two adults (male & female) in a 3.5 gal tank? They have enough hiding places and that's where they are now under shelter.

I know my Guppy tank is just fine with fry. I have about 40 fry with a couple of dozen adult guppies. I also have a separate tank with only baby guppies, around 70 of the little guys. I don't know anything about Mollies, though.

Most Mollies don't eat there fry. But all tanks are different. My sailfin's eat a few of there thoses but my bb's don't.

Mollies do eat their fry--it's only natural anything small enough to fit in their mouth..If you provide lots of hinding spaces you should still have some. I usually keep them separated for about 3 weeks and then let them loose in the tank.

If they have plenty of hiding spaces most of them will survive, my black neons at night would group up at the top of the tank waiting for a fry to come out, yes all fish will eat fry if they can fit them in their mouth, when they get older you are better off removing them from the tank so you don't get inbreeding as this will weaken the strain of the mollys.

I don't think you should be trying to keep them alive to be honest - 3.5 gallons cannot support several fry and 2 adult mollies... You actualy shouldn't realy keep a pair of mollies in less than 5 gallons and I would add another female if you get a larger tank as the male can stress a single female out severely.

Putting the over-stocking issue aside, a few plants and ornaments should be enough cover to keep most of the fry alive. (BTW, guppies and mollies are VERY closely related and will even inter-breed so pretty much whatever works for guppies works for mollies too.)
