I have to Mollies, on male one female. My Female recently had a batch of 32 fry. :wub:I salvaged all of them, because i had spotted the babies like right after she gave birth. Problem is, the male wont leave her alone, he keeps on trying to mate with her. i think she is getting mad or sumthing. Do they always mate after having a batch of babies? its weird. I dont know how to keep them from not mating, should i get a bigger tank? i only have a 5 gallon, im thinking of getting them maybe a 20 gallon or sumthing. What is a good size for about 37 fish? Also, is it bad if my fish inbreed? i really dont want them to be retarded and i would have had to feed em to bigger fish. oh well, please relpy or give advice. l8er.

get another female or two so that the female isn't always being harassed by the male. with more females than males, they get a little bit of a break from time to time while the male chases the others...

uh, tag! You're it!

yeah only thing can say is increase the percentage of females in the tank

Hi Molly_luver and :hi:

Yes, Molly males are typical men  Sorry, just had to say that :D

Seriously though, Yes. The male is trying to impregnate her before she uses her stored sperm to fertilize her next batch of eggs. This is how it works:

If the female breeds within 24 (or 48, can never remember) hours after releasing a batch of fry, she will use that fresh sperm to fertilize her next batch of eggs. If she is not bred, she will use the stored sperm. Now, your little guy wants to be SURE she has HIS babies next time, so he will try to breed with her every chance he gets, whether or not she has just released :grr:

Listen to the previous posters. Get him at least one more female (if you have room in your tank). Normal ratio is 1 male to 3 females. That gives the females a break while he chases another one for a while.

MEN.....Gotta Love 'em

A 20g will do for now, but are you really planning on keeping all the fry??? Why not sell some to a LFS. Just call around and see what they will take and how big they need to be....and how much $$ you will get for them. Some stores only give store credit, some won't take them at all. Need to check first.

Inbreeding is not a problem, at least that's what I was told when my Kribensis spawned with his sister. Actually they say find a male you like and breed him ot a healthy female. Then take a male from that release and breed him back to his mother. You can continue to do this to get specific traits. So, I wouldn't worry.
