Here's how to mod the Fluval Flex output for a Nano Sterilizer. *NOTE can be applied to any submersible pump*

The Sterilizer I'm using is a 3W NanoZapp inline UV Sterilizer

Items needed:

Dremel Tool
4 zip ties
Scissors
Step one: Remove the old tubing from pump.

Step two: trim the nipple on the pump end by 1/2" and trim the nipple on the powerhead by 1-1/4"

Cut supplied tubing for each nipple.(less space the better. Its a tight fit.)

Step 3: attach and zip tie the ends so they're secure.

Step 4: place pump back in tank. And turn pump and sterilizer on.

Having a sterilizer has some excellent benefits. It kills pathogens and unhealthy bacteria. Cleans the water and eliminates floating algae growth.

It should be noted that the flow and tank requirements for the 3W NanoZapp inline UV Sterilizer are:

Pump Flow: Required: 100 to 225 GPH

Aquarium Capacity: 30 Gallons

http://www.jbjlighting.com/pdfs/2010_NanoZapp_Series_Manual.pdf

If you exceed these specs the effectiveness of the sterilizer may be reduced and it may not sterilize at all. However if you stay at the lower end of the specs the performance may be improved. The ability of UV to sterilize is dependent on the flow and power of the bulb.
