Ok so my sister is a primary school teacher and has a class of primary three's. She is thinking about doing a project on tadpoles or some other little critter. But the reason I'm asking for help is so that I can get somehelp on what equipment would be needed to keep the little critters alive. Shes mentioned tadpoles, butterflies and worms so far. Has anyone done anything similar or have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Not exactly mini beast, but if you can get hold of some livebearer fry (not overly difficult  ), maybe let 'them' raise them from fry to adult? All they really need is a cycled filter, heater, food and water changes.

what about ghost shrimp or other shrimp tanks? only need small tanks for them really and they don't usually cost much.

or even sea monkeys!

Sea monkeys/ brine shrimp were great. I remember taking them home and setting them on a desk, returning a few days later to find them all dead. :p

Hatching/ attempting to keep brine shrimp, at least, in a small container, proved to be very smelly and futile... therefore, I am not sure how well it would work as a class display... thing.

In-class displays (not projects, which i realize is what you were asking for :/): I would suggest anoles (not to be handled). All you need is a 10 gallon terrarium or so and plenty of small crickets. Also, gerbils, which in my borther's 4th grade were taken home by one student every weekend (seemed to be relatively stressful, and they died before the end of the school year). Guppy fry sounded like a good idea to me.

Project/ Worms: in 6th grade we got meal worms and raised them until they became beetles. That's a possible idea, methinks.

Unfortunately, that's all that comes to mind, though this thread seems to have been forgotten, in which case I would also suggest you go into the general suggestion/ hobbies and try there.

HTH

i think thats the best idea!

would be easy to jus borrow someones filter or some of whats inside to cycle the tank quickly and guppys fry or something like that would be way more interesting to watch grow.

water changes and stuff could be class projects.
