We're looking for a mid swimming cat...

the wish list is...

max 6"
active during the day
wont pester our bottom dwelers too much.
peaceful (wont eat anything under 1")
likes a group of 3-5

Are we arking too much?

Any ideas?

Asian glass catfish; Kryptopterus minor or African glass catfish; Eutropiellus buffei.
Both are middle dwelling shoaling diurnal peacefull catfish that max out at 3 to 4 inches and wont eat anything larger than livebearer fry.

Sounds like they were custom made for you.

There is also the upside-down catfish. Not a shoaler, but according to my book peaceful with its own kind, so can be kept alone, as a pair or in a group. 4", midwater, can't tell about its daytime habits, only ever seen them in the shop, I'm afraid.

Synodontis nigriventris is a strictly nocturnal fish which hides away in small groups by day and then swims at the surface looking for food by night.

glass cats are a no - Lorna isnt keen on seeing through them :)
Debauwi Cats are another no - not keen on them when they get bigger...

Sorry to turn down both suggestions :X

we were looking at syno Petricolas or the multipa...'s
Anyone got some with sleep dissorders that we can have :D

there is unlikely to be fry in the tank but there is a schoal of 14 tetras (10 phantoms and 4 tag along prestillas)

S.multipunctatus gets quite big at around 10 inches to a foot so the tetras would definately be on the menu for adult fish. Also both S.multipunctatus and S.petricola are bottom dwelling shy nocturnal fish.

The only other tetra safe suggestion i can come up with is Pygmy Corydoras; Corydoras pygmaeus, which spend their whole time swimming in the middle region of the tank.

I agree with CFC, Best go with Pygmae Cories.

Lovley Ickle Fish with Big Personality's.

They max @ 1cm and Love Big Groups

sorry - we've got a group of pygmys in another tank..

looks like what we're after isn't available :(

might give a few petricolas a go :)
I'm sure we'll be happy with them :)

Hyalobagrus flavus, Shadow Catfish? :)

ok after a bit more research and a bit more searching - we have desided to move towards bigger fishies :D

a few pim are looking likely - with the phantoms homing into one of our other tanks

we did get a few more clowns today though :)
there are now 7 in the new tank - they are all mad - mad i tell ya mad!

how about flag tail cats, at work they just seem to "float" in the middle of the tank!
hmm.. interesting :)

Not seen them before - I'll run it past lorna tomorrow :)

these by the way?
PCF

have you got some in at he moment?

I just got 3 Pictus and I love them, the greatest catfish I have ever seen. They swim back and forth all over the tank with each other.
