hey all,

a place a few km away sells only light equipment, they say they do sell a 150 watt metal halide lights for indoor use that you can build into the roof ?

will that work for a fish tank ? i dont have a bulb to maybe go there on the weekend and test it...

it may work... how well hard to tell. Ballasts effect bulbs differently, life, color temperature ect. For me, and probably most of us here, our knowlage is too limited to be able to identify what will or wont work in that way... and to what degree; by the time you did figure it all out you would have lost any savings going with a supported and reputable brand in the fish hobby. Likely a regular shoplight ballast will be harder on the bulbs (where in normal use who cares if the spectrum shifts). And your ballast should last you 5+years? so 20, 40, even 100 dollars savings over 5 years = save up to get the known brand, to me.

For me I just go with the recommended ballast for the bulb color I enjoy seeing.
