There were a couple of things I was not happy about with my AquaStyle 980, the filtration and the lighting, fundamental really, so I modified both.
It is very difficult to install an external filter, I overcame this by drilling a couple of holes in the back. see pic...
This was a neat fix to allow the pipework to fit easily.
Secondly, all three lights were on the same electrical connection and I wanted to switch them with a timer individually. Did it manually for a while, but soon got fed up with that. When I stripped down the lights, it was nice to find each of the three fittings wired in a different colour, so it was very easy to pick up the feed for the centre lamp (white wiring), and run a separate mains to it.
As well as the obvious warning about dis-connection etc. Be aware that there is a lot of screws in the light fitting and you have to get the correct ones to remove the lid.
