Can the Maxi-Jet pump be used externally or does it have to be submerged underwater?

I ask because I have one and need an external. If it cant be used out of water, can anyone suggest an inexpensive, reliable external pump I can get?

It CAN, but you have to seal the inlet housing with silicone to do it, they're really not good as externals

OK and as an aside to this, and with thanks to previous information regarding flow control etc within the tank.

Say for instance you have a 130 litre tank, not quite to wide but more tall ??

What would you say, hands down without any further questions, is the best source of flow control within the tank ??

I am talking Hydor Koralia Pumps as recomended by one of the best advisors in this forum.

Your thoughts really prior to me buying at least one , perhaps two ??

Hands down best are the Tunze nano streams. Similar cost per LPH, and more LPH/W than the Hydor. If you want even better, go for the more expensive controllable 6055 for a variable flow.
