My new tank arrives tuesday and im wondering if anyone in scotland or maybe NE England has any they could/would spare? Im really keen to get underway and would welcome the boost. Ive checked the media list but only 1/3 of the scots listed are active and the 1 i did mailed hasn't replied.

Ill happily pay for postage or whatever is needed.

Bumping to the top incase this is a better time to do it :good: I've been suffering from depression recently and ive found planning everything and ordering things in has really helped lift my moods I know its a long road to stocking but i cant wait to get started lol

Hello from the other side of the pond. The bacteria tend to die out while riding the ocean over to you folks in the bright hills of green, so I guess it won't be coming from any of us yanks (personally I'm a southerner though...) Good luck in your search and we'll be glad to try and help if you end up going from scratch and doing without.

In my own case I had never fully understood the details of the two species of bacteria that make up the biofilter in my previous period in the hobby. Once I began to understand it I was really fascinated and found myself in denial that virtually every body of fresh water anywhere in the world would actually -have- some of these two species in there somewhere!

So to me it felt like a kind of fun little scientific expedition right in my son's new fish tank to see whether these nut cases on TFF were telling the truth or pulling a big hoax, lol. After a lot of hard work and ups and downs, I not only proved to myself that it was for real, I was actually rather stunned at how healthy my tropical fish were right from day one. In years past I had had plenty of experience seeing fish both healthy and unhealthy and I knew quite well the contrast between the two. Providing a fully functioning robust biofilter and learning the good habit of a weekly water substrate clean and water change routine are clearly at the core of success in the hobby. Somehow I just got quite a kick out of finding that those correct bacteria were right there in my pristine clear tap water and that they could be brought out by using a little clear household ammonia!
