Mature Decorations/media/gravel Cycling

Just wondering my tank has been cycling for abouut 2 weeks now and recently i put in decorations with gravel from my other tank,
how lond would it take to cycle then with this mature decorations and gravels?
Also, would it cycle faster if I did this,

you may gain a bit of use but not really a decent amount to boost the cycle. bacteria will grow on the substrate and decor etc but not a huge amount. put it this way it wont do any harm :good:
 
Agree. It would not do harm but it generally does not help much either. The only method thats quite reliable for speeding up a fishless cycle is the transfer of mature media that has been -inside a working filter- in some other tank into the filter you are trying to cycle.

For most beginners, speeding up a fishless cycle is not necessarily an ideal thing. Very often if they speed up their cycle, it turns out they've speeded up the process of learning how and carrying out a stocking list of fish that can live together well and that they like. They are then often faced with the results of a poor stocking plan and end up returning fish or such. Sometimes it also means they haven't had time to ask about and learn methods for good maintenance and other startup topics. So the couple of months can be quite useful and go by quite fast if you are working on the right goals and tasks.
