i was just reading about doc wellfish's aquarium salt, and it says it "should not be used in marine tanks as a substitute for marine salt".

whats the difference.. right on the box of my aquarium salt for my freshwater tank it says "made from evaporated sea water".

buying the special salt for the marine tanks is much more expensive.

do some of you substitute the salts?

I think the salt you have is a phyisilogical (spelling) salt (I think thats what it is) which is not seawater salt. I'm not a chemest so I don't know the exact differences but I know that some marine salts use evaporates seawater. I would think it would be a different chemical formula or will not have the correct minerals/elements that are needed for marine tanks( such as boron, strontium, calcium, magnesium etc). The salt you have is more for treating illness than for marine tanks.

I'm not 100% on that so correct me If I'm wrong
