Male or female betta?

I am getting a betta soon.
which is better? Male or Female? Who is more playful (usually)?

I don’t think it makes much difference in terms of temperament, if you are going to keep it on its own. Males are generally more colourful and can have longer fins, but very long fins can make it difficult for the males to swim, and they are more prone to fin rot. You can get some pretty colourful females now-a-days too. I personally like plakat males, but that is just my preference.

any type of plakats are very cool
i also like wild bettas

their fins are not so flowy and more sturdy
