Okay, here's the story:

I have a 30long planted tank. I have a school of 10 Harlequins, 3 assorted corys, 1 Male FT guppy, 1 starburst platt, and 2 ottos. I recently added a male VT betta to the tank, but, he tormented too many of the other fish so I bought a plastic betta holder....I'll include a pic at the bottom.

Anyways, he escaped yesterday morning and I couldn't catch him. He would run and hide in the plants. I didn't want to disrupt the plants and spook the fish so I just kept an eye on him. It's almost as if he knew I was waiting to catch him. He would peek out every now and then to make sure I wasn't holding a net. As long as I sat still, he would just swim around, flaring every now and then. If I moved.......zoom.....he was off in to the plants.

Well, I let him stay. He was seeming to behave. I went to bed.

I woke up this morning and HE WAS IN THE BETTA DIVIDER!!!!!!!!! I don't know how the heck he got back in there. It sits pretty flush against the glass and it wasn't below the water line. Did he jump?

Strange. Bettas make me think. They are smart fish.

Here's a pic

what a great story! lol. he must have jumped. they are known for jumping! Its odd that he jumped though...

Clever bettas!

Seriously, I couldn't believe my eyes. I even asked my girlfriend if she moved him in there during the night. She said no. We are both amazed at how he ended up in there. I guess he can just come and go as he pleases.......funny stuff.

why not?
If i were a betta, i would prefer a huge lucious tank than a small box...

Yeah but the fish jumped from the tank into the small box!! ;)

Say Riverman, if you're going to keep the betta in there, let him have the whole thing (it looks like the barracks is divided) and put a single layer of large gravel on the bottom. This will allow him to rest on the bottom without his fins coming out of the slats (where the other fish may nibble on them) and as long as the gravel is large enough, the water flow will not be reduced by much. Throw in a piece of java fern too while you're at it!!
Your tank is gorgeous BTW you should post more pics of it! :D
