How do you trim a red lotus lilly? It keeps reaching the top,and I see alot of peoples aquariums have them short and full....

well, are you talking about those leaves that are opening in the water or those that shoot to the top and open like regular lilies? If its the second one, then what i do is just cut them when i first see them (to me they are different because they curl inwards) and that discourages it from sending up shooters.

but if you talking about the underwater leaves getting too tall, i would just say cut the D:
Hopefully, the plant is healthy enough and will make more.

If you want a short stocky plant cut the runners that goto the surface off at the bulb. Keep doing that and it will promote short stocky growth.

you won't get it to flower if you don't allow the leaves to reach the surface.
however to answer your question, just trim it as close to the substrate as you can

I agree, I let mine go, until it chokes out the light, and then cut off all but four or so small leaves and stems that are on the top.
