im gonna be setting 29 gal soon with 11 tiger barbs, 2 3-spot gouramis(1 blue and 1 gold), 1 rainbow shark, and 3 bamboo shrimp. it will be planted. im going with an asian theme as all these fish are from asia and the plants im using are native to asia. i would like some kind of algea eater thats small(under 5 inches) thats from asia. im guessing this might be a plec but not sure. oh and upgrading the filtration wont be a prob. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Plecos are not Asian, they are from South America.

However, this is not a problem. All my fish is Asian except for plecos, and they mix with the Asian fish just fine (I keep the water parameters with Asia in mind---i.e. low Ph).

In terms of algea eating: following others' recommendations I got a bristlenose pleco yesterday, who so far cleaned about a third of algae in the tank (there was not that much--I left one side of the tank to see what it can do, and it did a lot already). I'm seriously impressed.

Watch for the pleco's size carefully: common cannot be kept in 29g.

And -- are you not overcrowded a bit already? 11 tiger barbs is almost your tank capacity already, do you really need so many? (remember that plecos are serious waste producers, they don't simply remove algae, they convert it into poop.)

like i said upgrading filtration wont be a prob. i know some plecs get realy big......i was thinking maybe an albino bristle nose or a rubber lip or a candy stipe............any other suggestion for a plec that stays around 5-6 inches or less.
oh and yes i know if there isnt sufficiant algea then i need to supplemnt with vegies and algea wafers and such.

i looked around and the plecs ive seen on the net that i like that are small would be:
rubber liped/bulldog
albino bristle nose
emperor plec
true zebra plec
candy stripe plec

any info on these guys would be great.
