Ok i got a 55 gallon tank which the contents are in my sig. The problem is that my 3 loaches i have, got a huge case of ick.they have had it now for about 2 weeks, and i have been cureing my tank with Quick Cure and Rise of Temp to 82 for the last 2 weeks.Should i just sacrfice my loaches and put a end to thier demise.Or should i continue to med my tank with meds and high temps and hope for a mircale and maybe my loaches will recover somehow(ick covered from head to back fin) and hitting my tank so long with meds, and hopeing the meds wont kill my other fish( which most are very $).

My water is near perfect.Tank is 7 months old and cycled weekly.

Finally i am working on a 125 tank set up,which is far from getting ready,so i have no other tank to put the sick fish in.

thanks for any adivice.

That same thing just happened to me.............I ended up losing a very old and precious fish because of the ick the loaches brought. I am not saying to kill them by any means, but maybe you could set up a hospital tank for them to remove them from your $$$ fish tank. Clown loaches are very prone to ick so I am probably not going to get any again for quite a while. If I do, I will put them in a separate quarantine tank for at least a month and treat for ick even if they don't show signs. I lost more than just our old fish, lost quite a few, but the one I lost was worth a thousand of the others............. :-( :-(  :/ :( :byebye:

oh and by the way I noticed we have similar set ups as far as what kind of fish we like..........my jewel of my tank is the same as yours......

Thanks for the reply.Yeah i see we got alot of the same taste in plecos.hehe, the 125 gallon i am setting up now is all caves and rocks,i am going to get a bunch more plecos for that tank.Plecos are my favorite fish as well, there are quite i few i want still. My next one will be a Queen,Which i have on hold at the LFS(buddy works at the store). Then the Zebra :).

I am afraid these loaches are going to wax my Royal, which is not replaceable for me.

I hear that man...you gotta protect your baby. Get a little cheapie tank like a ten gallon to set up a hospital........wont cost you much to set up. Let me know if and when you do that, or what you decide to do. I will be here with any advice I can dish out..........

;) OK I'm really new at this, and the fish tank hobby. Just out of curiosity, where do all yall buy your fish. I'm the idiot that got everything and listened to everything they said at PetsMart, but from reading all these posts, I'm starting to think they don't know anything about these fish they are selling me. And btw, if I never answer here it's because I could never figure how to navigate this web site forum <giggle> maybe I'm not such a good candidate for a 55 gallon fish tank, eh?
.....Lisa :(

With a name like yours, I especially can't believe you are asking that question!!

Ick has to be treated for 21 days anyway because of the life cycle of the parasite. Also, if your clown loaches have it you have to treat the whole tank anyway.

I don't think a fish that can be helped should ever be killed, whether it's to stop another getting sick or not. You could re-home them, making sure the new owner knows they have ick and that they have a seperate tank they could be treated in or get a 'hospital tank' yourself. As you have expensive fish (or even those who have a lot of fish), IMO you should really have one of those anyway.

I hope your clowns are ok.

Welp,my Snowball pleco has it now as well...my 3 loaches are so covered in it they are beyond saveing i think.all 3 of them huddle in the corner of the tank and never move.i dont think they are eating anymore as well....i have been treating this ick since the 1st day i seen it on them, and at that time 1 loach had it and only a couple spots. Now the 3 are swarmed with it and my snowball has it on him also.all my other fish are fine, been treating my tank now for close to 10 days with the temp at 82F and useing 55 drops of Quick Cure per day.And it seems i am losing the battle.....

If all my other plecos get over whelmed with it...i will devestated....the tank is 7 months old...the reading are all near perfect, and i got super filteration in my 55 gallon.(Magum with Marineland bio wheel, also a whisper 60 back filter). Also i have been doing 25% water changes with gravel sifhon 1 a week.

This is frustrating me,i take great care of my fish, and now i am losing the battle of this stupid ICK sititation.
