Regarding live food such as blood worm, daphnia etc, is it better to remove the uneaten after a few minutes, or is it ok to leave it in there.

It is not likely to go off like dried food, and it wouldn't be easy to scoop out the remainder as they always scatter around the tank anyway.
 
Leave it in there for a day, if it is still uneaten you know to change your portions for next time and you can siphon it out.
It will take a little while to breakdown and cause any excess of ammonia.
 
Or get some shrimps, they make small work of left overs :D
 
they are easy little creatures to love , :wub: sadley i lost mine :sad: :-(
