I just cleaned the water and food particles off the bottom of one of my breeder tanks and then was inspecting the water. I was surprised to see these little white worm looking things in the water. I had to use a magnafying glass to see them. Any ideas on what these could be. Do I need to be treating the water for something????

Those are a type of planaria. Usually excess food in the substrate will cause a reproduction explosion and they will become apparent to the eye.
They are pure protein and your fish should love them. They are harmless to your fish but most people don't like to see them. To make them go away do a deep gravel vacuum and a large water change. You may have to do a couple of these a few days apart.
How often do you gravel vac? What is your water change schedule? what fish do you have in the tank?

Thanks ALOT for the info. We have been reading up on it and came to the same conculsion. BUT it HELPS to hear it from someone else as well. Kinda makes you feel a little better. These are in a couple of my breeding and rearing tanks, Im wondering now if I should leave them be as it sounds like the fry should enjoy them as they grow?!? Guess Ill wait for more answer and more reading for us tonight. I wont be able to sleep till I know my fish are ok. TIA Thomas

i had them before. to be one the safe side i took all my gravel out, cleaned the tank outside, and baked the gravel in the oven. them i really stared keeping a schedule foe tank cleaning. i havent gotten them since! :)

I have had them once not long after I first started. I upped the water changes and gravel vacs and cut down on feeding. Most of them were removed or died. The fish ate the rest.

even i am having these kind of worms in my tank. I think they are pinhead worms (See this vdo to get an idea, they may not be as big as shown in video <My link>.
My aquarium guys and many of my friends suggested a compleate tank and gravel cleaning and to add the common salt and the blue liquid in the aquarium.
U can try it out, but i am not sure as to how 100% water change will affect the fish !!
