Hello,

First of these flys die in about 1 day. They seem to come in waves. The first time I noticed them was when I brought home some Java Moss. They seem atracted to the water. Whenever I lift my lids amungst the water drops are these little dryed up flys. They are aprox the sise of a pen tip barely visible and some of them have a grenish tint. Dont think i have ever seen them "fly by" where as they are very small.

Any similar experiences? Or ideas as per what I am looking at? Not to happy with these little bugers. Probably coming from my moss. I have a floating Breader trap which the moss was held in. Upon closer inspection there were "fly/larve"not sure swarmed on the surface. So I have ousted the moss completly from the tank.

Basicly my Question's are as follows 1 Are they from my moss

2 What are they

3 Can I Kill them??/Steralize?

Thanks for the help

Did you actually see wings on em?

I ask because my tank has springtails, tiny wingless insects. They are so small they don't break the surface tension, and jump around on the tank's surface, occasionally climbing onto a floating leaf or the one emergent bit of bogwood.

If I were you, I would do nothing. Fish like nothing more than live food.

Well when they are larva/small no wings, they have no colour as well as not capable of breaking surface tension as u said. Where as whenever they were stuck to the bottom of my lid, they were green and slightly larger with wings.

I like my Java moss. It Seems to be the culpret. Is there a way of steralizing it.. It came out of a goregous display tank at my LFS as such not convinced it was not already in my tank. There were no flys at the lfs.

What do you think I am Dealing with?? Thanks in advance for the help.

It is not so much for my fish as per my Glf and Myself. "There an't no Flys on us." lol old camp expresion
