Little Black Flower Things On Java Fern

My java fern is attached to my bogwood and the stems are through a hole in the wood with flowing water beneath them

Recently my ferns have developed little Starfish like black/brown flowers on them (kind of like the green bit on the top of a tomato), is there something wrong

Loads of little Java Ferns will grow from the black nodules, then the parent leaf will die.

Oh okay, can you remove the black nodules to save the leaf? or is it a case of once its started, its doomed for plant heaven

It's just how they reproduce, from experience the leaf dies after all of the nodules have produced a new plant, it happens so slowly that a replacement leaf will probably have grown by the time the leaf's life is over.
