Hi all,

One of my flying visits and I bring a question for you all. I have a maxima clam that is, shall we say, not looking like a prize winner and i have a very strong suspicion that it is because of light inadequacy. It is in the 24g D&D with a 150 watt halide situated approximately 8 inches above the surface of the water. Just for interest it has a PAR at that level of 115. I know in japan that they use spot lighting for corals requiring high light levels with a moderate background lighting. Does anyone know what those lights are they use? I think they are high output LED spotlights but am not 100% sure.

Any help will be kindly received.

Many thanks and kindest regards

Joe

Nice to see you Joe, I will be interested in the answer, in particular I am also interested in the way that some coral/clam keepers in Japan are spot lighting

Illegal here and in the US of A i believe! Not 100% sure on what they are, but i read an atricle about a tank using them and it said they were illegal outside Japan.

Why on earth would it be illegal to spot light corals and clams? That would be hilarious if that was the case. Excuse me sir I don't take to kindly to your use of spot lighting so your under arrest........ Is this another ridiculous scheme where the Tories strip us for even more of our assets and say its necessary if we want a health service.

well the search continues......

Kindest regards and all the best

Joe

Its not using them for clams etc thats illegal, its the actual import of the light unit itself that is iirc.

Found the tank

Not the artcile i read about the lights, just the comments at the bottom say they arent sold outside Japan. Apparently they arent LED on that one either. similar to mini halides.

I did find these that may be of interest though
