i have a 4foot 36 watt standard white tube lightbulb in my kitchen. is it posible to use this bulb as a fish tank light. the power from my fish tank light is 30w. would the standard light do any damage to the fish and would it be any good to use with real plants

My understanding is that you usually want to match the bulb and ballast/starter pretty closely. Its possible to put the wrong bulb diameter or wattage in and have it light up and look ok, only to not realize that you are burning out your ballast/starter. The ballast/starter box itself usually has information on it that may include the correct type of lamp its supposed to be matched with, assuming you don't have the original fixture instructions. There are a few members here really savvy about fluorescent lights, so maybe one of them will come along with more info. Regardless of what type or K-color, the fish would be fine with it.
