I'm planning on growing hairgrass, java moss, java fern, and micro sword. I'm currently growing those and all are doing okay except the hairgrass, so I'm thinking of getting a better light.
My current light came with my tank, and is 18W sunlight.

I have literally no idea about lighting... At all... So your help is appreciated! :)

In order to keep micro swords and hairgrass low is to Increase lighting to the Higher end of the WPG rule, otherwise whey will grow taller.
If you currently run an 18w over your 55 litre that equates to 1.5 wpg, ideally you would need to achieve something in the region of 3wpg to really get the best out of the M.Swords and HG, however with the increase in lighting, you run the risk of algae breakouts, unless you supplement with other nutrients such as co2 and ferts.

Thanks Phil, that's really helpful. At the moment I dose Flourish. When I rescape I will also use liquid CO2

Anytime, Look at pressurised co2 too, far cheaper in the long run
