ok im looking for a method of lighting my tanks up, and im trying not to get a light from a rip off pet shop,

with bettas, dose anyone have a good safe method of lighting there tank's, in saying that not including pet shop, brand name lighting, or just plain out extremely expensive light units,

i have a number of tanks so bigger + cheaper = better

i was thinking would a table cairn lamp be safe? i would like to filter out the light a little with a bit of blue or light green glass, if that makes for any dif.

I use a shop light i got at menards (big box home improvment store) that hangs above a provides light for 3 of my tanks. I dont remember how much it cost but i am pretty cheap so it must have been reasonable. Check out what they have if you use your imagination you could come up with all kinds of ideas. Also i scan craigslist and have seen people selling lights for at least 50% of the retail price and in some cases longer.
